After a month my filter is cleaner than previous filters in the same time. I've found that my room has less pet smell and smoke than the rest of the house, which is very noticeable when I open the door. I am allergic to pets and cigarettes, my roommate smokes 2 dogs and 2 cats in our house. My room is my refuge. Thanks for saving my nose and lungs! And there is almost no dust in my room! Filter is very harsh. The original Aer1 HEPWA filter is much better than this one. Using this filter made my friend's allergies worse as it doesn't filter anything. I've had it since I bought it last month and it's just spreading dust. I didn't even bother with the filter. Only bought this because it was cheap and the original Aer1 was out of print. If allergies and odor filtering are a must, avoid this filter pack. Buy original Holmes Aer1.

The purple filter doesn't work as well as my regular purple Aer filter. I live in the desert and the Aer1 would be covered in dust and would need to be cleaned every week. These don't seem all that good. I had to clean them once a month. The black pre-filter is too thick and not the right size. As you can see from my picture the foam filter supplied is NOT the same size as the unit. The purple filter looks like it, but I won't know until it's time to replace it. Luckily the black filter that came with my machine is hand washable so I used some tape to hold the smaller filter in place while the correct size filter is now washed and dried. Seems to work as well if not better than the branded filter for my Holmes Desktop Cleaner which I use all the time! I love that it comes with carbon filters for an extra layer of filtering (maybe that's why it works so well in comparison?) In any case I'm very satisfied.
