According to my air quality monitor (Laser Egg CO2), this filter did not clean the air in my room (PM2.5 microns and below). After 1 hour in a closed room, the pollution decreased by only about 11%. In comparison, my old, dirty Aer 1 HEPA filter reduced pollution by about 90% in 20 minutes. I think they are mislabeled at best. They were sold as HEPA filters and featured a purple border mimicking the brand's real HEPA filter. My testing process (because I'm curious too): I ran tests during the 2020 California wildfires when the outside air was extremely polluted. .a. I put a new paper filter in a small air purifier, it worked just as well as the old Aer 1.b HEPA filter. I opened the windows in a 10 x 12 foot room (with the door closed to the rest of the house) until the air reading was just as dirty inside as it was outside - contamination with tiny PM2.5 particles and less than about 240. The air was suffocating, smelly. I closed windows.c. I ran the air purifier on medium fan speed for an hour in a 10 x 12 foot enclosed space. i.e. The fine dust pollution index rose from 240 to 215. Still quite polluted, ie. I opened the windows again until the counter read about 240 for particulate matter pollution. f. I removed the new paper filter and replaced it with an old, dirty brand name HEPA filter. Closed doors and windows, e.g. Indoors, at medium fan speed and using the same machine, the indoor air reading went from 230-240 to 16-20 in about 20 minutes per hour. All readings were taken using the same monitor and were only readings for PM2.5 and below. Both the old and new filters fit properly in the air purifier. Incidentally, the fine carbon-coated pre-filters seemed to work well in reducing VOCs within two weeks. .
