Not what I expected

Pretty disappointed with the quality of the product. I can't tell the sides apart. I've tried it on different grades of steel (ranging from cheap to professional knives and it doesn't work very well). I soaked it in water first, bouncing helps, even used oil but still not happy with the result.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Zero

Used twice within the first five minutes - excellent results

Used twice with scissors within the first five minutes with excellent results. There were no instructions for the sharpener, but there are good instructions on YouTube. It's very easy to use and reasonably priced. Previous product reviews have indicated that they either canceled their order or received it jumped. I didn't have any chips or cracks. It was well protected with bubble wrap.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Only available in black

The best way to beat high prices from local retailers!

I bought the same or a similar product in Costa Rica (also imported from China?!?) for $2 or $3. a few years ago. But alas, it was there and it was then and here and now (in Alaska!) Shipping the same sharpening tool to my home for >$8 is actually a great purchase and bargain price! (Note: many of the "retail prices" for the same or similar items cost 100-150% more (!) than Revain Prime prices here locally!)

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Everything OK

Larger than expected

I didn't read the description very carefully and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a lot more than I thought it would be. It's not hard to sharpen knives with, but it makes a HUGE difference in cutting them. I don't know how I lived so long without sharpening my knives. I used to have an electric sharpener, but I recommend buying this one instead. Out of curiosity, I tried to sharpen a VERY cheap steak knife we had camping and managed to get it razor sharp.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Some minor things

Double chips and cracks

The box these stones come in is the thinnest single ply cardboard imaginable - candy boxes are safer. Additionally, the first was mailed in an unpadded Manila envelope and arrived with large chips on one end. I sent it back and the second one came in a padded envelope but it had a 1 inch piece on one end. It's not worth the price, I'll eat it. I can use the stone on the blades of small pocket knives and microcutters.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

I use it to make mosaics

I don't use it to sharpen tools, but I use it to file the sharp edges of tiles when making mosaics. Other mosaic artists saw my technique and bought it too. While it's not rough enough to do anything with porcelain stoneware unless it's very thin like a broken teacup, it's good for shaping small pieces and filing sharp edges on wall tiles or anything that isn't porcelain or porcelain stoneware is. . If I have to file a lot I use the rough side and for easy edge smoothing I use the smooth side.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Small parts

Good and efficient double-sided knife sharpener.

I can't always afford the best knives. But I've found that for me personally, the sharp edge of a cheap kitchen knife makes a huge difference. This sharpening stone is well priced and has a rougher side to get rid of dents and minor damage and a finer side to really create a nice sharp edge. I got addicted to my cheap dull knives and now they cut much better. I believe that a good sharpening stone is a good investment that will help you get more out of your knives, whether cheap or expensive. I

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Very expensive
