This 5v adapter kit works exactly as described. It allows you to connect to your car's 12V voltage with a fuse tap or a wire tap. I used this to power my Aukey DVR. I liked that it was hardwired but I had a USB port for the DVR. I specifically wanted to use this type of hardwiring since my Aukey DVR is capacitor based so the camera doesn't get power when I turn off the motor. I can't have a backup battery because I live in extreme heat, hence the capacitor-based DVR. Well, when I'm not in hot weather, I can just unplug the dash cam (because it's a USB port) and plug in the power adapter to record while I'm out of the car.
