Great tool for my needs

This tool worked very well and gave me a lot of information about my valve train. I wrote down and measured each valve. I've found a few valves that are .044" smaller than the others (a used one I just bought that I've been having issues with). I have 7-8" microns so I'm accurate to the thousandth of an inch can.

Works best in engines and engine parts

The threads were a bit difficult to turn at times, but otherwise worked well. However, depending on your head, it may be difficult to get to the knurled part of the regulator. I have a closed valley engine and the cylinder head walls are high enough that it was difficult for me to reach down with my fingers to turn the adjuster, but every engine is different. Still did an excellent job.

Needs a little patience to use

This presser length tester works like any other. Jam nuts can interfere with your measurements if they interfere, but other than that it worked great for me. I now have a version without lock nuts, but I would still use it again without hesitation. For those who say their shim is bent, do not use regular valve springs when cranking the engine with this shim on. It is not as strong as the .080-.135 wall shifter. Use a set of adjuster springs for applications where you want to check rocker arm…

Useful tool but could use improvement

I used this on a GM Gen 3 V8. The first thing I noticed was that the matchlines were barely visible in the suboptimal garage. To fix this I used a high res oil marker and drew lines. It became much easier to see. Since some of my readings were fragmentary, I think it would be nice to have a different color label halfway through. The only other downside was that the threads were loose. I have no doubt that it moved when placed or removed. If the top was harder to turn, it would be more accurate.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Unreliable

Comp cams 77011 Cam Length Checker

Great little tool, very easy to use and saves a lot of time. Although I had some trouble getting the pinched end of the tool through the pusher guide plates (they cannot be removed during installation as this affects rocker height and pusher length), it was still great, well fitted and very comfortable, great suitable for sbf 302-351ci. I also wanted to point out that the length changes slightly so I recommend measuring the length both before and after checking as it is very easy to move/change

It worked, but is now bent and unusable. Read edit

Like others here, mine buckled during use. To be fair I use springs for a solid roller cam. This tool will probably be great for hydraulic applications. You should specify the maximum spring tension with which they can be used. If they do, I haven't seen it and that's why mine failed. I was able to get the dimensions I needed before it was folded, so it did exactly what I needed in that regard. In the comments, this review is not intended to be used with your actual valve springs. You must use…

Easier to use than you think!

Do not count turns to determine rod length. Just let it run until there is no more rocker and use a caliper to measure the distance between the screw surfaces. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because the comp cam website says this tool is 8.8 inches when folded. Assuming this to be true, I ran a rod length test as recommended by Moses Laddell for the Jeep engine and added the recommended .040" to the Jeep engine. Achieve desired jack preload. After that I decided to measure the overall…
