The strap needs to be 2 mm longer. If the tensioner was in the clamped position, the belt would not fit. I had to pry it open a bit, bent my pulley. A five-minute job turned into an hour. Aftermarket belt manufacturers have to try their belts on Minis and find that they need 1-2mm more to ride over the pulleys. The belt should be difficult to tighten, in which case I'd call it impossible, but I sat under the car for 30 minutes using screwdrivers to try and get the belt to 1/4mm at a time. I…
