Not exactly. Best in Gas Detectors and Alarms

This is not the product if you want honest readings. I bought 1. Used it for 2 weeks, had very high readings in my living room. The block reset worked for another week. Very high. Bought 3 more Decided I should check everything to decide which room was most important. Place all 4 in the same spot. Anything within 24 inches to see if it reads the same. A week later they all have 4 different indications. Difference 5.0 from lowest to highest. Dropped them and tried again. The same thing.

Big. if you don't care about accuracy.

I ran 2 radon tests in carbon cans simultaneously with one of the Corentium detectors. Accustars were placed a few feet apart and measured 7.0 and 7.1, while Corentium found 10.5. I bought 2 more Corentiums thinking the original was broken. I've seen that again and again. With 3 of them an inch apart I got short term calculations of 9.81, 12.62 and 14.75 in 3 days. The long term values I got were 13.72, 14.4 and 17.62. That's a lot of discrepancy for device testing. . I am not comfortable with…

DOA **UPDATED** for gas detectors and alarms

Opened the box and pulled the plastic tab as instructed. After about a minute during the calibration step, I got "ERR 518". I reset the block and the same thing, 3 times in a row. Replaced the batteries and this time I got the code "Err 4" and "Err 6". Seems like others are having this bug after years of use. So so far I've either gotten DOA or one that was returned and sold as new. Return and buy another. I'll update when I get a new block, but spending $200 on a block like this and getting a…

A small price to pay for reduced health risks.

When I was about to buy a house, I usually avoided houses with radon protection already installed. I was not literate, informed, or concerned about radon. I figured a house with a radon problem would somehow go down in value. I bought my house in 2012. A home inspector placed a charcoal radon test kit in the basement. The results were 3.8 pCi/L, exactly in line with the EPA recommendation of 4.0 pCi/L. I thought great! No repairs are required according to final ownership records. Fast forward a

Poor accuracy or incorrect calibration

I'm a researcher at the National Laboratory. I bought a Corentium home radon detector (Airthings 223) in September 2018 and my friend bought the same one in October 2018. We compared the results of these devices in November 2018 for 3 weeks in the basement at the same time. Both devices were closed to each other: a gap of 2 cm, as shown in the figure. It was assumed that the readings would be the same within a reasonable tolerance, however the two devices showed wildly different readings. One…

To ensure proper radon control you must be constantly monitored

This is one of the most important $200 purchases I've made. Having this in my basement was very open and showed me the following: - The radon abatement fan installed in my home, running in the green (according to its vacuum gauge), is essentially not doing anything to reduce radon levels. On or off, same averages. *See update below, I no longer believe this is absolutely correct. Just DO NOT rely on a radon ventilator as your only protection. Radon levels can vary LARGE when fans are used. My…
