I needed a power source so I didn't have to change batteries every few hours. I use my camera for astrophotography; I take repeated exposures from 20 seconds to several minutes when photographing deep sky objects and I don't have to change the battery after a series of 50 exposures in the dark because I risk losing the subject. I gave the product 4 stars instead of 5 because I only used it once. I might add a 5th star when I see how long it lasts.

So the adapter fits and appears to power the camera - turns on and stays on. The problem I'm noticing is that the camera randomly resets the live view. I set a custom timer to 30 minutes, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm starting to think this adapter is causing complications. When I used the battery, I didn't have this problem. Still pricey, but compared to Nikon's insane price range for some hollow plastic adapters with a bunch of useless pins, this is the best choice. In theory, all you need is + and - and your good $10 power adapter, but they do it on purpose to get your money's worth. It's bad enough that the camera doesn't record for more than 30 minutes, even with this cable, to justify protecting the sensor from overheating. Even though the sensor stays on and LV keeps running. Too powerful for any Nikon camera that will fit EL-14/EL-14a batteries, but hey, I love having excess power here :) If you're interested in photogrammetry like me (with multiple cameras), you can actually activate up to 50 Nikon cameras with ONE of them! Because most Nikon cameras that work with EL-14/EL-14a batteries only draw about 0.11 amps. I just buy a bunch of these and then a bunch of EL-14/EL-14a connectors and plug them all together. As I've started shooting more videos I've been frustrated with how little the batteries last, especially when shooting from different angles.
