Craftsman general purpose red stripe filter is used for cleanup of everyday dirt like sawdust, wood chips, job site debris and car or truck dirt. The pleated paper technology creates an over sized surface area for efficient dust and dirt removal and can be easily cleaned. This filter is compatible with all current Craftsman Wet/ Dry Vacs 5 gallons and larger, as well as, 6 gallons vacs made since 1992 and 8, 12, 16, 32 gal. vacuums produced since 1988. Not as advertised or compatible

The photo of the box says it fits Craftsman model #113179150. It is not true. This unit cannot be attached to the engine mounting bolt and will fall into the trash can. The original filter had a flat top and a wing nut that attached it to the motor housing. This assembly has a raised male stud and a pressure cap that does not attach to the motor housing stud. [See photos]. Since it's been 4 or 5 years since I changed the filter, I didn't notice any difference in design from the product photoโ€ฆ

Filter works but needs modification to fit

I have the same brand filter expected to match exactly with the exact model of my vacuum cleaner printed on the box. Apparently the new method of attaching this filter is supposed to be a swivel nut, but the filter is too long to work on the threaded rod in my vacuum. After playing with it for a few minutes, removing the filter each time, I gave up. I got out my Dremel tool and used a cutting wheel to cut off the bulge in the center of the filter to expose enough threads and used the originalโ€ฆ

Filter Won't Stay in Place

Same experience as most other one star reviews. The built-in filter plate and plastic "compression" nut is an unfortunate design that does not securely hold the filter in place. The filter can fall off when moving the vacuum cleaner, and sometimes for no apparent reason. I started removing the top of the vacuum to make sure the filter was in place every time before turning it on. Not in the way you would want to use a shop vacuum. Even so, he just fell down in the middle of clearing a pile ofโ€ฆ

It will work, but modification may be required

I needed a filter for an old Craftsman vacuum cleaner. This is an old school black plastic 8 gallon version, probably bought in the early 90's, noisy like everyone else but still like a champ. The model number is 113.177011 and has probably gone through several iterations since my purchase. I found this filter model and thought it would be a direct replacement. To an extent it is, and required some modifications to properly fit my model. This doesn't mean you'll have the same problems, but it's
