I could have bought a logical, rational humidifier that was easier to clean/carry/etc. would be, but I only chose this one because it's so cute! My son loves trains. The light from the front and the way the steam exits the chimney from above is perfect for any railway enthusiast. It's quite large and takes up quite a bit of dresser space. 1st product manual says do not put it on wooden furniture! Must be on a smooth surface at least 2ft off the floor and not on metal, towels, carpet or anything shaggy etc. All our furniture is made of wood. This air humidifier has proven itself in our children's room. We used it all winter as forced heating dries the air in the house. We also have a whole house humidifier and this little machine completes it. It worked all night and didn't wake him at all. A few points that are a bit downside: 1. A bright indicator that shows when it's on (green light) and when it's empty (red light). I covered it with a piece of tape and it worked like magic to dim the light. 2. I really wanted to love this humidifier because it's so cute and fits so well in my son's Harry Potter room. I received one and when it arrived it looked great! Instructions followed and assembled, green light came on but nothing happened. There is no fog. I couldn't figure out the problem so I asked for a replacement. The second came a week later and again, following the instructions, VERY careful not to squirt the water out, plugged it in, the green light came on and there was steam! Success!

Update: We've been using this every night or so for the past month and confirm everything I've said below! The only minor "issue" I've noticed is that when you dump the old water, it's a bit difficult to get it all out due to the hole being configured and positioned, but I wouldn't let that put you off. just for your note. I've been trying to love this POS since last September. The first injury was the warping of the wood of the shelf. It's not a problem, they will refund you by the way as they warn you to put it on the plastic in the manual. The support person told me that snippy.
