Best mousetrap for cycling

Getting my new gravel bike's wide tires off the rim to replace the tube is something I've encountered with regular tire levers. I've searched all over the internet for ways to make this easier. I've learned that in YouTube videos any technique or device seems to work with a nifty move, but good luck replicating in real life! I've gone through a number of tire tools and hacks that left me feeling inadequate when it comes to hyper-competent people quickly removing tires and mounting them on rimsโ€ฆ

I've used metal and plastic 8 inch tire levers for a long time and they work well, but you have to be careful with them because of it easy to pinch the tube between the rim and the metal arm. Metal and even plastic levers can also scratch rims pretty quickly and I would NEVER use a metal lever on a carbon fiber wheel. This faster Crankbrothers lever is a great alternative to metal levers. I've removed and replaced 10 tires with this handy little tool since it arrived. This lever is solidlyโ€ฆ

I daresay it is better suited to make 32c or larger MTB tires.

Use this tool to solve your tire mounting problems!

This tire shop is AMAZING. I was skeptical about ordering, so as soon as I received it I tested it on the stiffest tire/wheel combo I've ever come across. I literally broke 4 of my favorite levers installing them and it took me 30-40 minutes of hard, tedious work to get the job done. (It usually takes around 1.5 to 2 minutes to remove a tyre, replace an inner tube and reinstall a tyre, rarely more than 5 minutes for a complex tire and/or rim). I was very nervous about this test as I neverโ€ฆ

Works great - great for MTB tires, good for road tires with care

I've changed a lot of bike tires and replaced/repaired a lot of inner tubes since I started cycling as a kid. Probably most of the readers of this blog post have. For me it was the tires and tubes, starting from the huge ones on the first bike I owned - a vintage cruiser (original type that was decades old when I got it, the look with huge springs and metal front end, not modern retro models) by thin (sometimes stiffer and more difficult to change) tires and tubes for road bikes. metric age orโ€ฆ
