Handy tool for engines and engine parts

Use it for its intended purpose and it's fine. This is to spin the engine slowly during assembly or repair. It is made of aluminum so that the tool does not damage the crank.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Nice little tool

I bought this on a whim because it was cheap. Let me tell you I've never used this on an SBC before. However, I have used it on a Ford Triton engine, Mitsubishi or Kia I believe. On the newt sits very well and firmly. The rest was a little sloppy, but damn it was trial and error.

Works as advertised

This is a great way to manually turn the crank and valve train when working with the SBC. It is not designed for use with an impact wrench or other power driven device, it is designed for use with a 1/2 inch ratchet. It is made of aluminum so that it does not damage the end of the crankshaft. Sand worked great for me replacing the camshaft and valve springs without removing the engine from the car.

Great item - Crankshafts

A few negative reviews about disassembly and poor workmanship etc. I've had this item for over a year now and after 7 builds it still looks brand new. This should be a softer metal than the crank so a cheaper head is more likely to snap off than damage your engine parts. Secondly, these sockets (of this and other brands) are not designed to crank a complete engine with spark plugs (forming compression). This is usually what you do with a crank bolt (grade 8) or flywheel adapter tool (a large…

Amazing little tool

This tool is perfect for its intended purpose and a few other uses. There have been some bad reviews about this product being aluminum and not strong enough. It was not designed to run a full engine at full compression. This is to rotate the crankshaft and protect the crankshaft nose when you mount the rotating assembly on your engine. It works great for this use. And as a bonus, I found that the OD is the same size as the harmonic balancer shaft OD, so I also use this bushing to center the…
