Must have for VW repairs

Yes, you really need such a tool to remove the air intake on a VW I5 engine. There are other ways to take it apart if you're comfortable losing detail in an area you can't get to.

Pros
  • Socket wrench
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Sturdy and long enough that no extension is needed

6mm allen wrench, long enough to reach the bottom air intake screws without loosening the 12" extension. Picture of my engine being disassembled when I finally found the first hex on the 1/4" drive extension. It's a decent tool if you have a 2.5 liter VW to avoid that kind of disappointment

Pros
  • Tools and Housewares
Cons
  • Damaged

It is worth buying a hand tool

I use this tool every day at work (5 days). I am 100% convinced of this tool. No shaft torque, no bending, no problem. This is probably my favorite. The main shaft (not the 6mm end) is a bit chunky but realistic and ball free. I would say the lack of a ball has something to do with its durability but a slight inconvenience for difficult angles.

Pros
  • Wrench
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Stand for 2.5L Intake Manifold

Required to remove and reinstall VW 2.5L intake manifold. L engine intake manifold, these are two bolts recessed 8 inches. Several repair videos said they dropped the bat and there is no good access to recover the dropped bat. This makes these screws (and some others) much easier to reach as you can't lose the end of the bit, also because it's thinner than other extensions and adapters. The thinner tool made it easier to shove other hoses and parts in the way.

Pros
  • Power and Hand Tools
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
