CURT 55451 Custom Wiring Harness Review

Easy to install on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Everything we click in the installation. A few cable ties and the installation was complete.

Easy to connect and has worked great for me so far. I just wish the control box was a little smaller. Finding a suitable place to place it in a light building was not easy. It took 3 times to find a place to attach it and reattach my light body when needed. .

Thought this might be a deeper intrusion than it was. I threw a light on my jeep and remembered having it at family members house. Maybe 10 minutes from start to finish? Very easy to install. direct directions. One thing should be noted. There is no good place to attach land for it. I actually drilled a hole in the driver's side taillight bucket and sanded a small spot to attach the bottom with the supplied self-tapping brigade. In general, two pluses.

The wiring harness is convenient as it does not need to be docked to the main wiring but simply connects to the taillights. The crossing section leading to the passenger taillight could be a few inches longer to fit the existing wiring around the exhaust and make crossing over the spare tire easier. The instructions don't say to lower the spare and run the wire over the spare's hoist so it doesn't dangle and risk being ripped off when you go into the woods. Requires more cable ties to secure…

Easy installation. Worked for about a year. Then the tail light went out. Bulb replaced. Not true. fuse replaced. nope Then, when braking, the front turn signal lights up. Disconnected the converter and returned it to the drain, everything was fine. Sent Kurt an email and haven't received a response yet. I have them on three other machines and believe it or not I would buy another one because of the ease of installation. UPDATE Bought a second one, worked another year. Now it isn't. Never heard

Installing this item was very easy. The biggest difficulty I had was finding a place to mount the converter box. In the installation video I watched, they installed the box under the taillight housing cavity. However, there was foam scraping and I couldn't fit the box in there. I found that the best place to mount the box was actually on the bottom rear of the taillight housing. I ended up having to remove the double sided tape and use my own. MODIFICATION 07/23/2012: This hitch worked great when I only had a small cargo trailer. I recently purchased a Coleman retractable camper and found that this belt did not have enough power to turn all the lights to full brightness. When the brakes were applied, the lights seemed to dim a bit. UNLESS you tow something with lots of lights (my camper probably has 8 parking lights + taillights) this will suit you perfectly.
