Longevity depends on how you use it. I have curly hair (different curls every few inches) and I've been trying to tame my braids/rows with it - the elastic didn't live up to my expectations (ie the elastic will puncture the fabric if pulled too hard). WOW! These hair ties are perfect for my hair type. I'm an adult and my hair is waist length with some really thin strands, I just have a lot of them (I think it makes my hair an awkward mix of thin and thick). I can use it to tie all my hair in a ponytail and double tie the band and it holds great without being tight or too tight. Use these on my 7 month old daughter - they are perfect for conditioning her soft fine hair! I love bright colors (goes well with any outfit) but the best part is that they don't lose their elasticity over time and stretch enough that I can wear them on my wrist (assuming I have a small wrist).

I ordered these extra because I was trying to practice braiding my own hair. I absolutely hate those tiny rubber bands because they are very painful to get out of my hair (I have a lot of fine hair and they tangle or resist the rubber).
