Doesn't work with all 3G modems

This doesn't work with new 3G modems in Costa Rica. You'd better check with your ISP before you buy it to see if it's compatible. Works in Costa Rica only with old Kolbi 3g modems. I had to order some old Revain modems to use this router in Costa Rica. Also note that the only countries in the setup wizard are the US and Canada, not the whole world. I had to contact support for help to get it working outside of the US or CANADA. The setup was not easy and not intuitive. Once set up, it reallyโ€ฆ

For the price of a day internet rental in a hotel!

Too bad hotels charge for wireless internet these days. However, most of that fee is given away for free wired internet. That's where this babe shines. Although both are paid for, this router mimics your device's MAC address so you only pay once. Yes, you got me right. Some hotels charge multiple times for multiple devices because they don't have enough smart hardware to know which devices come from which rooms. Don't let the device's name fool you, yes it shares your mobile data, but it canโ€ฆ

I would not recommend this item. It does not work as described

This product does not work as described. It does not work with the UMW190VW wireless adapter. I spent 3 hours on the phone with D-Link tech support and even spoke to the manager. All could only read from a pre-printed script and fix errors that way. They couldn't tell me why this adapter didn't work with their product when tested. I even had Verizon on the phone with them and got nothing. I would not recommend this product. I am sending it back for a refund.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are problems

Amazing Product: Router

I was a little scared to buy this product. I read bad reviews. I live in New York, hooked up an AT&T connection through a USB connection and it has always worked perfectly. It's a bit difficult to figure out how it actually works at first, but after a few tries it's very easy to set up and get up and running. Now I have WiFi throughout the house. I can't be happier. I recommend it to everyone!

Useful piece. Garbage!

Unusable. stay away from him This is a hardware upgrade from the old DIR-412-W, but this "hardware upgrade" adds compatibility with newer 3G modems (modems that are unavailable in most regions) and the hardware upgrade is therefore not compatible. with old 3G modems (used in most regions). DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS ROOTER! He's useless! Get the old model. D-Link support is terrible, I've spent hours searching many useless support pages on D-Link site, tech support is helpless. Exactly what I was looking for

D-Link DIR-412 Mobile WiFi Router 3G 11n-based 150Mbps Hotel rooms still require the use of a category RJ-45 connector 5 for free Internet access won't do much good since the iPad doesn't have an RJ-45 connector. The iPad also doesn't have a USB port, so I couldn't use my Verizon Novatel USB760 3G USB modem, which I use with my laptop at hotels that don't have free internet. I've looked at Wi-Fi hotspot type products but most require 1-2 years of contact and can cost up to $40-$60 a month forโ€ฆ

You should have trusted other reviewers

That's where your arrogance catches you I guess. I bought it to set up a hotspot but couldn't get it to work at home let alone on the go. There aren't enough instructions in the kit or online, and there are too many other options to waste time figuring out.

  • Few competitors

It's ok but not for the money

I recently bought this and ended up spending half a day setting it up. Over the years I've configured my share of Cisco, Linksys, and Dlink routers. It was just a little stubborn to accept the configuration. Once I got it working I got around 72Mbps at best on 3 different computers. I have a Cisco Wireless N router that reports a full 140Mbps. Using the same machines with this wireless N router each reports 1/2 link speed. In use, it was significantly slower than the Cisco router. I bought itโ€ฆ
