The screw on top can be tuned without stressing the points

I spent a lot of time trying to understand why the points don't spark. When tightening the nut on the tension bolt, it spun and broke the contact inside.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • High price

Ideal for 8n front distributors.

Easy installation with a 5/16 nut. My 8n engine only started at minimum throttle position, now it starts easier at any throttle position. My coil must have been weak. The tractor works harder. worth 25 dollars.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Will not fit all

Waste of money and time

I completely overhauled my 2N. Got it back and nothing. It didn't start. After scratching my head for an hour thinking it couldn't be a new part I just bought, it was the coil. Disappointed and upset.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Only available in black

This new coil was bad from the factory

I ordered a new cap, tips, plug, capacitor and coil as part of the setup. After installing all of that, I had no spark. It took me almost two weeks to realize that the part they sent me was bad. The old coil worked fine, checked the new coil and it fired.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • So far so good

DO NOT BUY - DEFECTIVE

Ordered - DOA. Open circuit in the primary winding. Got a replacement. Tested 2.5 ohms, installed, tried to start for 5 seconds with no spark. He pulled out and opened the circuit on the primary side - immediately blown. Went and got one of these (different brand) from the local tractor supplier - works as expected. These are non-working, defective, improperly manufactured units. Do not buy. The Tractor Supply part number is 23800199. Order it instead.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • Not bad but...

No need for electronic ignition resistor

Some people told us that we need to use the resistor built into this 12v coil on our rebuilt 12v tractor because it burns the dots, but we went with electronic ones Ignition changed. We had a bad job with the resistor so we removed it and it worked much better. However, we still have the resistive ballast connected to it. Maybe having points will help, but if you've switched to electronic ignition, don't use the built-in resistor.

Pros
  • practical thing
Cons
  • vulgarity

Great for converted 12v 8n

Works great in my converted 8n. Just note that this is not directly related to the ignition. If you're going from a 6v system to a 12v system: it connects the battery mounted ballast resistor, connecting directly to the ignition switch will kill it. From 12V the system still uses the 6V coil (this is the setup I changed from): If you used your original 6V coil in a 12V system with a second resistor, you no longer need the additional resistance. get rid of it Connect the coil directly to the…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Difficult to say
