Good but better Made in Japan

I bought this as an upgrade to a similar unit I bought 17 years ago. This DCM-27 has features that the previous model did not have, most notably MP3 and WMA capabilities. Now made in China, the device has the look, feel and weight you would expect from electronics made there. In other words, fewer controls, lighter weight, easier touch. Bad user interface

This player does not provide a good user interface for anything other than simple sequential playback. Seconds to select the next track while the player keeps rattling and screeching. It's faster when only one disk is loaded, but it's a CHANGE. The manual points to a random disk serial mode, but I'm not smart enough to get it working. Setting random mode doesn't just set the mode; it stops the current track and starts a new one. No display of MP3/CD text track information. Accelerated search…

Is it Denon or a Chinese clone?

The sound is really good, but as a previous reviewer said, it only works well for simple sequential disc playback. In random mode, it takes an infinite amount of time before the next track or CD is started. In addition, data carriers are not always recognized. I've tried several originals in pristine condition (no fingerprints or scratches) and some of them don't show up in the playlist. The board is crazy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
