🔧 Derale 15718 Engine Oil Filter Relocation Kit: Enhanced Filter Efficiency and Convenience Review

Hose fittings leak on the thread. It's probably good if you solder or weld them together. But not something I can handle.

Installed a horizontal filter on my sailboat's motor. I always had oil leaks and couldn't prime the filter when I changed it. I moved it to a convenient location for swapping and vertically so I could prime the filter before starting the engine. It worked perfectly and I was happy with the product.

Adapter and travel base have vertical cracks on NPT connector threads. This is difficult to see unless you look very closely and run your finger over the threads in a radial direction. After reading reviews where customers claimed oil leaks, I checked to see if I could find the problem. OK, I have. A refund has been processed for this order.

Works great and gives me lots of options for oil filter installation. It also allowed me to replace the oil filter on my bike with a traditional bolt-on bottom one, which allows me to buy a wider range of oil filters without worrying about the anti-drain check valve. When the filter is screwed in from below, all the oil in the filter is retained by gravity.

I wasn't too sure about the soft hose that came with the kit so I made hydraulic lines instead. Otherwise I am very happy with them. It uses the same head adapters as the other kits, so this kit has no advantage over the multi-threaded adapter kit. I was hoping this filter adapter would be durable when I bought it, but it uses the same nut/clamp.

I used this and installed it on a 2007 Honda Civic EX. R18a1 engine and PH8A oil filter for reference. I recommend buying custom hardware, but for the daily driver, it works well out of the box. (It is now September 2017 at the time of writing this review.) I use about 6 feet of tubing for each line. I also installed a sandwich plate on the oil end to add a pressure gauge and oil temp gauge. After installing the Derale 15718 I was able to screw in the stock oil filter and start the truck. As soon as the engine started, I heard a loud bang and shut it off. There was a large puddle of oil under the oil filter and it was loose. I tried to tighten it again but couldn't get any tighter. I removed the filter and used vernier calipers to measure the threaded nipple that Derale supplied to connect the remote filter bracket to the oil filter.
