Excellent detail pastels

Always use these for final details in my pastel drawings. I've attached an example of my work so you can see the details.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Crumpled wrapping

Great for filling in outside spaces

These pens are great for filling in outside spaces in your coloring book. Mixes with a napkin, leaves a nice soft color

Pros
  • Freehand
Cons
  • Almost never

Derwent hits the mark again

I love them. I have a fixative when I want a chalky look. The colors are terrific! I even have a cousin. She was so worried about the dust everywhere that I had to come up with a trick to get rid of the dust. Here's what I came up with: For the background, swipe the pen over the side you want. Then take a tissue and wipe it off. If you want a different color afterwards, repeat the process. She is the happiest tourist in California!

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Broken promise! in arts and crafts

These are not cheap pencils and the Derwent name has a good reputation, but they work like cheap pencils from a company with a not so good reputation. The colors are beautiful and they work well as long as they don't need sharpening! I tried three different pencil sharpeners, all bought from art stores, not the local pharmacy. These pencils break and break and break. If you want to sell pencils, you must include a working pencil sharpener.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Appearance

It's ok if they don't need sharpening. The color is intense and really pops on black paper, but the colored chalk centers crumble when you try to sharpen them. They are too soft and break instantly whether you use a hand sharpener or a blade. REALLY annoying and such a waste of money - you can use the whole pen in one drawing because the center keeps breaking when sharpening is needed and by the time you have enough chalk to use the pen most of it is gone. It's just too expensive for them to…

Pros
  • Heavy duty
Cons
  • Has been damaged

Better than others, with a bonus! BUT handle with care

UPDATE: I still love these pastel pencils from Derwent for their ease of use, color vibrancy and overall quality. BUT some of them seem to crumble and break pretty easily when I try (be careful!) to sharpen them. This seems to happen more often with the Dervents than with the Stabilos. Maybe the carrier dropped the box? I do not know. Oh, these are really good pastels. I also have a full set of Stabilo pastel pencils and they are the best. Great coverage, best color selection (72!), blends well

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Easy peasy, smooth and easy!

I love these pens for working in my coloring books. The colors are easy to apply and mix very easily with the silicone color formers that I also bought to use with. Soft formers seem to work best with sharper paper, while hard formers seem to work best with smoother paper. This is counterintuitive to me, but that's what I found. I use a colorless tombow blender to "set" the colors and it works well - I've found that using water, even with a wet brush, tends to result in the thinner paper in my…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
