Great replacement for GM trucks, no problem cornering on dry roads and always locks up when it needs to. Anyone thinking about rebuilding their differentials is by far your best bet. Love it and glad I chose the Detroit Locker

This locker is much better than the standard locker from my 0.6 foot Silverado Z71 which rattled or felt like it would skip when closed. Not a single step escapes this device. Works quietly and reliably. It uses gears, not clutch packs, so there is no special gear oil or additives.

Both wheels chirp when I steer hard and the power is being transferred to the ground. The picture of the magnet are parts of my G 80. I would take the carrier bearings and spacers, a magnetic base dial indicator, a thicker diff cover, axle shaft seals and your desired gear oil.

Fits my 2006 GMC 8.5 diff with overhaul kit. If you do it yourself, good luck lol. It took me at least a week for multiple trips to the dealership for specialty tools. What you need is a magnetic dial indicator, vernier calipers and a bearing puller and an instruction video on youtube lol or if you have the money take it to the store to get rid of the headache and pass it on to whoever pays. i have this headache.

I know the picture doesn't exactly show a differential. Just a cover. My G80 wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I really didn't like that one axle had to spin at least 100 rpm faster for the other to lock up. Made for a very annoying hit when it came. As I said, the G80 sucks. This difference is amazing. A note for anyone reading this: my diff was literally acting like a locked diff. I called Detroit. Said "we need Lucas HD gear oil" and said "we can't say any brand name oil won't work". Those are the words of Detroit Technical Support. I was too lazy to change the oil in the transmission and it "junk" only for a few days. I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 engine. I love this difference!
