Great quality, less traditional, more commercial/modern

Beautiful quality! As you would expect from any woodworking tool made in Japan. I will remove the original grip and hand carve my own (and more historically accurate) grip which should be made of bent fibres, longer and denser in Japanese pine (better balance). But when that's done, I've got the perfect hammer!

Pros
  • Everything great!

New favorite hammer

This is my new favorite hammer. I ended up removing the plastic trim from the handle for better grip. Great for chisels, small nails, floating spikes and more. Large size and weight to choke for delicate work or use at full extension for more power. The first thing the ladies who venture into my shop ask themselves is: My goodness, I love men with great taste. Yes. be that guy

Made by experts in Japan

This is a well made, durable nail hammer/chisel. Made in Japan with attention to detail, comfortable grip and well finished head with a concave and a percussion head. This makes it a versatile hammer. The environment can affect the fit of the heads, moisture causes the wood to expand, and dry environments can cause it to shrink. If this is a problem, it's easily fixed by sticking a wedge in. I love this hammer.

Sweet combined with Japanese planes or chisels

I got this as a spontaneous purchase with my first Japanese plane and chisel set. seemed unnecessary but little justified with an airplane. And yes, for chisels or J. planes it is the right weight and balance and allows for very controlled adjustment of the planes. As it should. specifically designed for this I suppose. I can't imagine using an ordinary hammer for this. In general, I'm very glad I did it!

Not sure until you finish the pin!

Overall I like this hammer. It's a bit lighter than traditional 350g hammers, but that doesn't matter for the price. Another review mentioned that the wedge was not fully hammered in at the top and I think that was intentional so you can remove the head and adjust the grip to your liking and then reinstall the wedge and hammer it in. The edges of the handle are rough and what they did was done across the grain. I was able to remove the head from the handle with just my hands and a slight…

A good Japanese hammer, different weights, two types of clubs.

I like this hammer, it seems well made and fairly light. It's 300g, there are heavier ones, but I think it's a great starter hammer for setting a Japanese planer knife or hitting a chisel. The handle is pleasantly shaped, light and fits well in the hand. The hammer head has two different face shapes, one is flat and the other is slightly convex or slightly convex. The flat side is designed for driving nails, chisels and other common hammers. The convex side is used to easily drive nails into…
