Works well for spares

Item fits and looks well put together. Driven over 1000 km, everything holds up. I recommend installing the drain plug with Permatex high temperature thread sealant and letting it set for two days. Then when it is back on the machine and you fill it with Auto Trak II fluid, allow it to flow through the fill plug as much as possible and then seal the fill plug with the same sealant. Let it dry for a day or two. I haven't had any plugs yet so they seem to be working. I sealed the case halves with

The reason for the bad rating in this case is draining and filling.

Case fits the truck I need it for. For the people who are saying the speed sensor holes are cut too deep and their sensors are going bad, I would ask if they've read the documentation that comes with them, if that's the case. The IT guy told them to check the sensors and put a washer under them when they were supposed to close, the washers were included. The reason for the poor rating in this case is that the drain and filler plugs were not taped with 3/8 pipe threads and were not sealedโ€ฆ

Fits great with one exception

If Dorman corrected the VSS hole machining I would give 5 stars. Great fit with one exception. You edited the VSS hole too hard. What this means for you: screw the speed sensor all the way in and you will probably ruin it. Many people have the same problem. Be sure to check the play between the VSS and the brake wheel. If it does touch, there are a few workarounds. You can fit a thicker o-ring and apply some silicone to hold the VSS in place so it doesn't rotate. Another solution is to buy aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Installed on my 2000 Silverado transfer case during a complete overhaul with new seals, bearings and Merchant Auto Pump Debris Remover (new pump housing). The reason for replacing the bodywork was a broken drain plug from the previous owner. This housing is aluminum (stronger than the OEM magnesium) and also comes with its own pump mount (I didn't use this as my new pump housing is better). fix IMO). All in all a great single latch replacement. WARNING: The speed sensor connector was machinedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Low repairability

Problem with draining and filling.

Same problem as the others, leaking drain and filler plugs. The factory case uses tube plugs (tapered threads). Dorman uses a standard 16 x 1.5mm straight thread. You say to use a non-hardening sealant but I don't see how that would work since the fluid gets on the filler threads and later when you change the fluid you can't remove the fluid from the drain threads. The liquid will render the sealant ineffective. I have used Dorman #090-054 drain plugs with a fiber washer, but they also leakโ€ฆ
