Description of π High-Precision Drill Bit: Drill America MMO1 32 4FSE Polished - Ideal for Accurate Drilling
Solid carbide tools offer long tool life and faster cutting speeds than other substrates, but are more brittle and must be used with rigid toolholding systems. Available in polished finish. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems. When run in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cut) spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging. 4 Flute single end.
Pretty disappointed in this end mill. I was engraving on a flat sheet of 6061 aluminum and it broke after about 7 minutes of starting work. I didn't think I was going very fast, the spindle was running at 10,000 rpm, 14 ipm feed and 0.002 documents. For some reason it just came out. I used lube and air to get rid of the tiny shavings but it still broke.
It's hard to find a 3/16 inch long end mill or a shank with the same diameter as the cutting face. That fits the bill. We have a selection of these tools for cutting round holes in rubber stoppers about 1 inch thick. Regular drill bits aren't designed to cut through the sidewalls of the rubber, so they just push it aside leaving a very rough cut. End mills work much better and this one is perfect for small 3/16" holes.
Wow, who knew what a difference you could make just by changing the end mill. I have always used the ones supplied by The Other Machine Co with my OtherMill and just assumed deburring the plate with steel wool after cutting was a necessary step. Although this bit was expensive compared to others, I ordered it from Revain simply because it would come quicker. I put it in the machine and cut my first board and I was surprised to find NO EARS. Copper edges are perfect. This photo shows the panelβ¦
