Description of πŸ”© Economy Reduced Shank Drill by Drill America Qualtech

Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys. Gold oxide is a thinner oxide surface treatment than black oxide typically used to identify cobalt steel tools; performance is similar to uncoated tools. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems. When run in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cut) spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging. Manufactured to National Aerospace standard 907.

Blunt like a butter knife, brand new

Totally blunt before first use. When I first tried using it, there was already a 1/2" pilot hole in mild steel, so I could thread up to 3/4-16. Just the metal polished, nothing cut. 40 turns in a 750 drill press and a back cut and it went through the material like clockwork. Went 2 inches deep in about 1 minute or so with plenty of zep drill bit coolant. I just wish it was already sharpened. Also, as I always do with bits with such a long reduced shank, I cut it short enough to fit in the drill

Well it will cut through plain wood and possibly Al.

This accessory arrived very quickly and was packaged so that it was not damaged or rusty. A very big plus. in this. Although "hey, it's only $22". I then went to the garage and spent 30 minutes on the drill press (low speed) attempting to drill a full pass through mild steel 1/4" 2" OD square tubing. This is ridiculous as the bit and workpiece are properly aligned and regularly lubricated. The first took about 20 minutes, the second about 10 minutes because I pre-drilled it (in about 20…

I doubt I will buy them again. This is in no way Kobalt M42. I've tried this on both of my drill presses. Same speed, same length, same mission type. I had to drill 4 holes on 8 panels. Both beats chirp terribly. Especially the ones on the craft press. I even swapped them out to test the attachment but it still didn't chirp well and didn't want to cut at all. The only reason I ordered them was because I was in a hurry to finish a client's work and it was the fastest shipping option. One of the…
