Works great for me - Bluetooth network adapter

I connected this device to this USB to RS-232 adapter: USB to RS-232 adapter to USB port on embedded CPU running Linux (with appropriate drivers installed). I can now send serial data from an embedded Linux board to an application on my PC via BlueTooth. It was almost too easy! The hardest part was finding the right port for the PC as sometimes it seemed like it would find TWO BlueTooth serial ports.

Pros
  • Easy to use

  • Annoying

You were smart enough to stay on firmware version 2.0-20100601.

You can buy the HC-05 from various vendors, some at significant discounts, but they usually come flashed with newer firmware versions that are not as reliable and tested as those supplied by DSD-Tech. I recently bought four HC-05s from another supplier for about the same price as DSD-Tech; Connection problems, pairings are lost and the device crashes during data transfer. Finally I decided to replace the devices with DSD-Tech modules and now the system works perfectly. No other changes, only…

Perfectly classic and works great; Firmware Version: 2.0-20100601

Anyone using these HC-05 modules knows that there are many different hardware and firmware implementations and not all work the same. I don't have any special requirements for this BT module but I use it with Arduino and AT commands and set AT+NAME, AT+UART and AT+PSWD. Also I need some data buffering and blocking when the buffer is full and I had problems with firmware versions 3.0 and especially 4.0. For this device from DSD Tech firmware version: 2.0-20100601. That works great. It's marketed

Doesn't work out of the box. waste of money. waste of time.

I had a problem pairing the module with my device but was not fully connected. I was unable to use this item as it was intended to be used. Before powering up, I made sure the data pins were connected properly and that the RX pin on the module was not getting more than 3.3 volts when the signal was applied. This item is non-refundable for some reason even though my purchase was made within 30 days and the unit is not working. I can't even get a refund so it's a waste of $10 in my eyes. On…

Works at 3.3v on network adapters

The documentation is a little inconsistent, but it worked for me at 3.3v. I'm using the Sparkfun CH340 USB-UART for testing. This outputs 3.3 V at up to 600 mA. The manual says the HC-05 operates at 3.1V to 4.2V and 30mA to 40mA. The Revain and DSD Tech websites, as well as the board itself, state that the 3.6v to 6.0 VI uses two serial ports, one connecting to the CH340's COM port and the other to either one (why two?) Bluetooth COM ports is connected to HC-05. (both on 9600 8N1) and had no…

Difficult setup with AT but overall not bad

It took me about 6 hours to figure out how to communicate with him via AT. Had to go through numerous white papers DSD, Youtube etc. ** Please note that a slow 2 second ON/OFF LED means it is in AT mode. *** They are also in slave mode by default and need to be configured via AT to be paired. **** It is recommended that the RXD pin has a voltage divider, I use 1.8kΩ and 3.3kΩ. Now that it's working for me, it's pretty reliable. I have 2 Arduinos communicating with 2 DSD Tech HC-05. I had to…

High expectations, but disappointment again

Like the HM-10, this device is only really useful for transferring small amounts of data. It has basic scanning capabilities and can prove the existence of non-advertising devices (via AT-RNAME?), but won't give you an RSSI. You can't change the power level either, so it's not really possible to create a proximity-based app with this device unless your target is constantly in pairing mode. how to implement this function. Unfortunately, most people simply send data from one device to another and
