If you use this device with a 2.5 inch hard drive, it works fine. BUT, if you want to use this device with a 3.5" drive, you need to connect the included power cable. This device cannot be powered. If you have a 3.5 inch hard drive, you will need the supplied external power adapter to transfer data to and from the hard drive (3.5 hard drive) with this device.

It just works. What more can I ask for. I used it with SATA SSD. As I said, it works. The drive I used was unformatted and I was able to give it a drive letter and format it by connecting it to this cable. The cables are short, but what more could you ask for. The speed corresponds to the speed of USB 2.0. I have 30MB/s. with a SATA SSD in a laptop being converted to a SATA SSD. HD slows down. This is USB 2.0. Therefore you need external power supply. USB 3.0 is not required. You can use itโ€ฆ

All offline with STAT data and power on

I inherited a DVD-DL reader/writer from a friend's mother. But it was in a large HP tower that I didn't need, so I started looking for an external DVD enclosure for a full size DVD device. I don't know much about the computer business, but the cheapest DVD case on Revain or e-Bay was around $50. God, I could buy two skinny DVD-DL recorders in cases for that. Luckily I can use a full size DVD box with this product, but it is not included. Better than nothing and for $12 it's a good value and itโ€ฆ

Is working! Cables and Connections

Quickly connect an external 2.5" hard drive or solid state drive to a USB 3.0 port. The power supply allows you to rotate drives (probably even 3.5" drives, haven't tried them yet) to connect. Much more practical than a docking station. Allows booting from an external drive (plugged into this thing) in OSX 10.6 to 10.11 by holding down the select key at startup.

It works. Computer Accessories & Peripherals

Bought to recover files from my dead laptop's hard drive. I would pay a good amount to bring it up to a better buy so they do it for me but searching the internet led me to buy one of these devices and I have to say it's a very good buy! I've been able to transfer photos and other files from my hard drive to a USB flash drive, and I'm happy to report that it saved me a few bucks. My current laptop is quite old, so I've had to settle for a 2.0 adapter (whose upload and download speeds can be aโ€ฆ

An absolute lifesaver!

I had an external Masscool media player that got all messed up and eventually broke. The Masscool was basically a glorified external hard drive built from shoddy parts and poor workmanship, and I mainly used it to back up files from my computer. But when it broke and I needed those files, I got stuck trying to solder the tiny parts to no avail. Luckily I was able to remove the Masscool SATA hard drive and tried to figure out how to remove files from the hard drive which was still working fineโ€ฆ

Excellent!: Computer accessories and peripherals

The device was well packaged and shipped promptly. It looked just like the pictures. It was very intuitive to use. To be clearer, this device can be used to connect a bare SATA drive (or device?) to a USB port on a PC. In my case, the Seagate network drive was full of data and the connection built into the case failed. In other words, I had a drive that worked fine, but it was in an armored frame that couldn't be removed without destroying the drive. I can plug this device into the drive'sโ€ฆ

Saved me a lot of money!

I had a desktop matrix and I really needed to remove files from it. I took it to Staples to see how much it would cost to get them to do it and said with a raised jaw that I had to work this out myself. A few videos later from YouTube University and here we are! I couldn't believe how easy the process was once you had the right tools and especially since Staples wanted to bill me. Long story short, I took out the drive following my YouTube guide, connected this cable and a 1TB external hardโ€ฆ
