Build quality is good but I found that ants can crawl out of the top if you open the latches to drop food or water AND go moldy after a week or two. Another time I took a set of ants and tunnel sand and put them in a tank they couldn't get out of and it worked much better and we were able to look under the surface and see them in our tunnels much better!

The most common ant farm is Uncle Milton, along with brands that appear to be identical to Uncle Milton (probably just a relabel). The GeoSafari Ant Farm doesn't feel like the plastic will crack when filled with sand, and Uncle Milton's Farm requires great care when packing the sand. We've had this ant farm for two weeks now and we love it! The ants are happy and healthy and we have a great view of the tunnels. I like the sand idea more than the gel because you can clean up the habitat, add fresh sand, and reuse it after your first group of ants dies.
