The Essential Needle Lacing Tool

The nipples simply snap onto the original spokes. However, once you start installing the drive spokes, especially on a deep rim, you will need a tool like this. There are also several ways to build your own.

Pros
  • Insert the nipple, start threading the needles and be free in one click!
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something

Pros
  • Made of stainless steel
Cons
  • Good but not great

I usually try to screw the nipple of each spoke onto the spoke a few turns; Once the wheel is laced, I remove the slack and start tensioning and releasing the tension…

Pros
  • 2Β° conical spoke nipples
Cons
  • Zero
