Works great with a SATA SSD but not the best for a desktop

Tried this with a Sandisk 250GB SSD as a large fast "USB stick". No connection problems, speed up to 240 MB/s. But the 4 inch cable, while suitable for a laptop, is too short for a desktop. The device always hangs halfway to the case on the USB port. The best choice for desktop computers is the Sabrent adapter listed below. It's $3 more, but you get a two-foot cable and UASP capability. The latter is a higher-speed protocol supported by some USB3 ports that are (I assume) more common on the…

Does the job with slightly lower performance

I have this for use with a Raspberry Pi 4 and am using it with a SATA SSD as the main drive. I'd say avoid if you can easily get others, but still worth it if you can put in a few minutes. This adapter works out of the box with USB 2.0 and loads an operating system instead of an SD card. The goal is to use it on USB 3.0, we have to apply some quirks to make it work in USB erase mode instead of UAS mode, which is still better. The chip in this adapter is an ASM105x/ASM115x to SATA bridge which…

Restored all my old photos from 2007 and 2010 MacBook

ATTENTION ALL MAC USERS: This product works! I'm so happy that I was able to recover all my lost photos, music, videos, etc. from my old 2007 and 2010 Macbooks and it cost me less than $15. However, YOU MUST BE PATIENT! Here's my experience: Nothing happened to my 2007 MacBook Hard Rive at first, but I noticed it was making noise and the lights were on, indicating it was working. I left it on and after 5-6 hours I was finally able to view my hard drive files! But a 2010 Mac Book hard drive took

Works great on a Raspberry Pi 4

I used this SATA adapter to install a Western Digital Blue SSD on a Raspberry Pi 4 using one of the USB 3.0 ports on the Pi could boot the Pi with an SSD instead of a micro SD card. There are other things you need to do in the Raspberry Pi software to make this work, but from a hardware perspective, this SATA adapter worked without error. The Pi boots and runs significantly faster with an SSD, making it a viable replacement for a cheap desktop computer. You can only use this adapter for 2.5"…

No longer compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 due to chip change! :(

Raspberry Pi 4 users, beware! USB device as well as the maximum USB bandwidth available via the UASP protocol. However, it now uses the awful JMicron JMS567 SATA 6 Gb Bridge/s not supporting UASP when connected to a Raspberry Pi In light of this it returns and I will leave the non-UASP case I already have that uses the same chip (Sabrent EC -UASP). This interface is in a shorter cable that works better but still has the same downside as this guardian... it doesn't seem worth keeping it just for

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Hard to remember but that was

The device worked perfectly the day I received it. I used it recently on the same laptop it was previously running on and it caused the laptop's USB port to shut down and I reported that the port was trying to draw too much power. I bought a powered USB hub, but the Eluteng device does not work on a powered USB hub. When connected to a power hub, all port LEDs blink, which is not usually the case. It has been two days since Revain's 30-day return window and there is no information on Revain…

Works better than other types

I have a number of SSDs that are constantly being replaced (video store). I had to replace my old ones like "Startech". They were thin so I was afraid this would be the same. But this one is excellent. I really like it because the cable isn't that flexible around the connectors. The previous ones kept bending, and so the connection stopped working. The line on this particular line seems to be a bit thicker and stronger than the other types we have. I'm sure it will last at least 3 years like…

Good SATA III to USB 3.0 Adapter

UPDATE (8/30/2020): Now that USB boot is enabled on the Raspberry Pi 4B (and new Raspberry Pi OS images released on 8/20/2020) .2020 released), this "blue" version of Eluteng will definitely fit. The Pi 4B is brand new hardware with a completely different boot system, and this 'blue' Eluteng adapter cable really shines with the 4B and its USB 3.0 capabilities. However, there was a report from someone claiming to have gotten it with a JMicron bridge. Chip (instead of ASMedia). I haven't been…
