The ruler on the metric version of this tool is faulty - do not buy

I have both inch and metric versions of this tool. The imperial version is good, but the metric version has a serious flaw. The ruler of the *metric* version is not 150 mm long, as is usual with small metric squares, but 6 inches (152.4 mm). Since the zeros of the upper and lower scales are to the right and left of the ruler, the two scales do not match (see figures). This makes using this square very confusing and prone to error - if you ever look at the wrong side of the scale you will be off

Pros
  • Great construction

  • Crumpled packaging

Nice little combo square

This is a nice little combo square for getting into tight spaces a 12 inch device can't. I have to understand that this thing will pay for itself by relieving frustration. I got that and a metric 12" combo square because now that I have a Makita chainsaw with a metric blade depth gauge it just makes sense to use a metric square drive. I grew to like the metric, one, two, three, four. Well my old head can easily remember that these days fractions become fractions to remember. For an inexpensive…

Made some adjustments for carpenter's squares

I like this better than my 12" combo square because a) I've switched to metric, but more importantly b) I rarely use more than a few cm use on my combo square. This size is much more comfortable than the full-size version. However, it wasn't perfectly square out of the box. After stretching the ruler to its maximum length, drawing a line along the spine and flipping the square to line up the marks, we found a one millimeter gap at a distance of 14-15cm! This is easily fixed enough that the…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
