Fantastic coverage for large homes

I have used many consumer WiFi access points, most recently the Motorola AP which is part of an AT&T UVerse router. I have a 4,500 square foot house and have had a lot of dead spots. Reliability with TP Link, Motorola and many others was an issue. Video streaming apps kept crashing/paused/crashed with my old wifi. The UniFi LR-AP made significant changes in both signal strength and reliability. I installed it upside down while sitting on a windowsill (so it's the worst temporary install) but I…

Couldn't be happier. And we only needed one device

Excellent product. I have a fairly large home with a story of 5500 square feet. That means a lot of horizontal space. The home router wifi signal was depressing and just couldn't cover the entire house. Thought to try that. We ran Ethernet in the attic and placed a Unifi device in a central location on the ceiling. Great access point, easy setup, long range, no experience required

but don't let that put you off. First, let me say that I have been in the networking business for over 15 years. years and has dealt with countless consumer and enterprise products. This access point is easy to set up. It takes 4 steps. 1) Connect it to a PoE injector or a PoE switch. 2) Install the UniFi software. 3) Wait for discovery. 4) Enter the SSID and Key. That's all. Ready. Easy. There aren't even that many features that you can customize. You will be fine with the default settings…

Cons
  • good but not great for business

My initial experience with this product was positive. I'm a seasoned IT consultant and didn't find it difficult to set up, but as other reviewers have pointed out, the experience is VERY different from the process used with a typical consumer router/wifi. Others have noted many details, but here are a few concepts I haven't mentioned yet: With these access points, you don't configure the device directly. The required (and not included) management software walks you through the initial setup…
