No instructions and poor body drilling

Balun arrived on time. The claim in Revain's ad is that instructions are sent via email. It never happened. I found instructions on Youtube. These directions apply to baluns 1-9. Drilling the pl-259 connector is terrible. I had to cut holes to fit the connector. The youtube instructions list six ground pins for the pl-259 connector. I only received four. I have no idea what the original purpose of these bottom tabs is. I used the supplied ones to solder the input ground to the connector. I'll…

Good price if you are "DIY "!

I had to look at pictures from the Revain website to connect. It was hard to tell from the pictures on the website but I figured it out. Two of the four screw holes that attach the coax cable to the unit had to be enlarged to accommodate the nuts on the screws as they are too close to the bottom of the case. If the body was 1/8 inch lower it wouldn't be a problem. In terms of water resistance, rubber washers can be used to seal the screws as well as the coaxial connector. Otherwise the device…

If you can. that will work fine

The product probably deserves a lower rating because of the instructions. Although the video is provided, it may not help some. However, after assembling this balun (actually a neon) in a 9:1 configuration, I can say that its reception is very, very good. I've seen a 20dB gain over the PL-880's whip antenna. On shortwave you can hear hundreds of miles, if not better. This Unun is powered by a 97' 1/16" steel cable in a horizontal U configuration (Rx only). It works well on most bands. My ATU…

So far so good.: Accessories and supplies

I've had it for a while and installed it a few weeks ago. After ordering I contacted the seller for instructions and read them before receiving. The kit looks good apart from the attachment option (maybe a ring against the connector or some kind of bracket/clip on the back). It has a ring to make it waterproof but it has two perforations on the back so it's not waterproof. So far I have used these perforations and straps for attachment. The instructions mentioned two shorter screws and two…

Good set for those with an empty parts basket

If you are building a disposable antenna this is a good alternative to buying components individually. If you plan to build several, better buy parts in bulk. Overall quality is good, with a decent SO-239 bulkhead connector, rustproof hardware, and a pre-drilled body with watertight gasket and drain holes. I didn't use the included magnet wire or toroid for this project and I'm not sure what the mix is (31?). The built-in T130-2 is as big as it fits in the tiny body, and that's fine; I need a…

That's what they said.

I did not receive the promised email with instructions and if you are looking for vendor support it deserves zero stars for a broken promise. I found good information on YouTube. The kit was of good quality although some of the holes were misaligned. Easy to attach as the shell is soft. Your mileage may vary. There wasn't enough wire for the ten turns they mention, but YouTube made nine turns, which I did. The kit came together easily, although I had to use a piece of wire I had on hand for a…

Pros
  • 1:9 balun suitable for long antennas with manual or automatic weekday setting.
Cons
  • Exorbitant price

Great project for any radio amateur.

This set is supplied without instructions and can therefore not be assembled incorrectly! In fact, I would advise everyone to try this project. However, a quick Google search will turn up more than you wanted to know. The kit can be assembled in different ways, I chose Unun 9:1 for a long wire. As you can see from my last photo, the packaging has loosened. This is because I waited to seat the pipe until it was wrapped. I have since disassembled it and repackaged it. The math I found on the…
