Very accurate on thermometers and timers

I am re-writing my review as I have made some adjustments to the pan I am using. Once immersed in the right amount of liquid, this thermometer appears to be 100% accurate. I have tested 3 other thermometers and this one was the best of them all. Definitely recommend.

Can be improved but works

Shows temperature. In hindsight, I would probably choose one that has a base that isn't the probe itself. This would allow me not to risk touching the probe on the pot which would give false readings. It would also be nice if there was a heat resistant rubber grip because the damn thing gets pretty hot making it difficult to set the altitude on take off. But it is what it is and it works.

This thermometer needs calibration

When I received it I tested it with boiling water and found that it was at least 10 degrees above normal! The good thing is that it's easy to calibrate by turning the nut on the stem with a 3/8" wrench. The quality is actually good and easy to read. And according to the package insert, it is said to be dishwasher safe. I haven't put it in the dishwasher yet, but if it is, that's a plus.

Just like my old favorite!

I was heating fat for frying chicken wings while looking at my old thermometer. It seems "stuck" at 300 degrees. I hit him and he jumped up to 400 degrees! I had to take the pan off the heat before the oil started smoking! Time for something new! To be honest the old man was about 40 years old! This new one looks just like my old favorite, but it doesn't "stick"! It also has a wider temperature range (the old one stopped at 400). I love it!

Efficient and easy to use

The thermometer is easy to use. It's not too heavy and NOT flimsy. I also like the blue color in liquid, it's easier to read than red. I also like that the temp starts well below 100. I use this a lot for baking bread and I need to know if something is in the 80's or 90's which I can easily tell with this thermometer. My other thermometer started at 100 so I had to evaluate. I would recommend it to anyone who needs this type of thermometer.

100 degrees from real temperature!

OK, maybe I have a defective one? I bought this a long time ago, used it for deep frying and have had browning and burning issues. I practically gave up frying for a while. I have since bought another thermometer from a different brand and decided to "check" both of them. This Escali was 100 degrees Fahrenheit "lower" than the other thermometer! I wonder why my food kept burning?!? I think that was the answer. I wouldn't risk buying this unless you have another to try.

30 degree error in candy

Received this on Thursday and used that same day to brittle peanuts. An accurate temperature measurement of 300 degrees is required to ensure that the brittle does not burn. I used a thermometer and when it reached 300 degrees I removed the brittleness from the heat and poured it into the pan to cool. The color seemed lighter than usual. I tried making another batch and the same thing happened. Today I compared the Escali thermometer I just bought to my old polder thermometer and found that the

Uncomfortable position in pan

So I bought this because my candy thermometer broke in the middle of a batch of peanut crumbs and I needed it quickly. We don't live near shops that sell good ones so we ordered this. I like its simplicity, but when I wanted to put it in my pan it had to go to the opposite side from where I needed it because the dial needs to read the way it's supposed to. I'm right-handed, so the handle of the pot is on the left and the thermometer is on the right of the handle. I had to keep looking at the…
