Really explosive and funny (as always)

If you want Tom Cruise and Ashton Kutcher to play cameo roles in a cozy detective novel, you're in luck with Explosive 18. Stephanie Plum is back from a vacation to Hawaii that didn't go well. But wait. It gets worse. The guy next to her disappeared during landing, and now the FBI are after Stephanie because she saw a very important photo he was holding. That's where celebrities come in: when Stephanie works with an animator to recreate a photo, it looks like her. Well, at a dead end like this,

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

It's amazing that Janet Evanovich continues to be creative as she writes Blasting Eighteen better than some of her previous novels. Stephanie Plum is more aggressive in this fun, not hilarious, book! And Lula? Well, Lula is just plain old Lula. Whamm with her again and again. She's in heat for a new boyfriend who isn't very law abiding. As for Vinnie, he's on the brink of disaster again. An office being rebuilt after a fire that started how? Her makeshift office, a mobile home, also somehow…

Stephanie Plum always there

As always, I really liked the book. It was entertaining and fun. It's always nice to know that Stephanie Plum is there when I need to read something that isn't mental. Ranger and Morelli eventually get into a fight. I knew it would happen eventually, and who knows, maybe it will happen again. Grandma Mazur behaved unusually well, admittedly. Stephanie is drawn into a cloak-and-fog mystery on her way home from Hawaii. That gets her a few stalkers and a weirdo who wants to "kill her the good…

i am loyal but it gets boring.

I still love this series but I'm definitely not as quick to jump on it as I used to be. After 18 books, there is little that is new or fresh in them. In fact, it becomes completely redundant. How many cars will be blown up? How will she escape the last jump? How many donuts or buckets of chicken will she and Lulu eat? Who will she or Lulu shoot this time? How ridiculous is Lulu's latest outfit/diet/boyfriend? How many times will Ranger and/or Joe save her and who (or both) will she sleep with…

Improvement in the series

I've been very disappointed with the last few Stephanie Plum books so I didn't have much hope that this one would be any better. To my surprise, I really liked it. Stephanie finally seemed to have grown up a bit - this time she seemed noticeably more competent, or maybe I should say less incompetent. She's still a long way from being a top-notch bounty hunter, and as she says herself, luck is her greatest talent; But aside from having her car repeatedly stolen by the same guy, she didn't screw…

My least favorite Plum book (yet)

FYI there will likely be some minor spoilers in this review. This was my least favorite part of the series for a number of reasons. First, I found the whole Hawaii story overdone and not explained or put into any context to the readers until the beginning of the story. It annoyed me that I didn't know what happened, and it annoyed me even more when I found out what happened. Pretty lame all around. The situations with Joyce and Buggy were the other two big problems. Stephanie just let them both

Evanovich finished the series earlier, but does not know about it

I have read all of Plum's novels, including unnumbered ones from the series. Around the sweet (scalding) sixteenth I started to feel something, but I forgot how the dead smell. I still buy books, will probably continue to do so, and reluctantly bloat her coffers in hopes she'll get the taste again, but. since i believe that she no longer writes books, i rather doubt it. Look what she did to Ranger and Morelli! They openly fight over her in Hawaii, but Morelli declined her invitation to be her…

Mixed Feelings About Mystery Thriller Suspense

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, who has seemed to get a little better at handling gaps over the course of a series of books, is more incompetent than usual in this latest book. , what partly due to how she thinks of Morelli and Ranger. More serious dumb tricks in this story are performed by other characters. The story starts out a little confusing as Stephanie has just returned early from a disastrous trip to Hawaii with a brown streak on her finger, suggesting she was wearing a ring. Both…
