EXTECH MO257 - Improved Pinless Moisture Meter with Enhanced Depth of 0.78-1.6 inches Review

Works great in both modes and I like the ability to "hold" the meter reading, especially when you get into those weird or awkward positions and can't read the reading. However, the moisture percentage on the LCD doesn't seem to match the LED reading. I can almost get the damn thing on the LED to go red and the LCD reads something like 26.5 which doesn't make any sense at all.

For some reason Revain doesn't allow you to update your original rating with another one over time. I bought two MMD950 devices, I liked their sensitivity, but the function keys were "incomprehensible" and after a few months both stopped working. By broken I mean I can't calibrate to 0 in relative mode and I can't move it above 0 in tree mode. I have now purchased an Extech unit and it works simply and as advertised. Can feel your hand at a distance of 6 inches.

This Moisture Meter measures moisture well with all features and comes with a nice case. The problem is that it is short-lived. The pins break easily on anything but drywall, and the lintel holding the pins even broke. I returned the device and received either a new one or a repair. In any case, the bridge broke again, so that the pin gauge is now unusable. This after less than a year of operation. Update: I contacted Extech regarding the defective unit, they sent me a new unit with no questions asked. I've already started buying another one as I always like to have a backup unit for my house. inspections. The second unit is working great and I should get a replacement from Extech next week.
