This moisture meter works well although I don't use it often. There aren't many moisture meters on the budget and I decided to stick with this one as it was in the price range I was looking at and Extech seemed to have more failsafe products.

Clear instructions and easy to use. The tips are really sharp, making it easy to use even in an awkward position underground. The ability to lock readings allows you to take readings without seeing your face. A little pricey for casual use, but the tradeoff is you can trust the readings.

Purchased to detect moisture in a plastered wall due to a water leak. Very useful for measuring the severity of a leak as well as the size of the area on a given wall. The measurement is a fairly consistent movement between different materials or locations in our home and not random, which I've heard is a problem with cheaper gauges.

Works normally and fairly accurately but beeps constantly and reads 7% humidity even when closed. You only need to remove the battery to reset. Also, the power button only works to turn off half the time. If checking humidity is part of your job and you measure humidity daily, look elsewhere.

Most professional installers say that the most important tool for properly installing any hardwood floor is a moisture meter. Rather than guessing if my soil and sub-soil were at the correct moisture level (properly acclimated), this meter provided some information. The acclimatization of floors (as recommended by the manufacturer) depends on the moisture content, not on the length of stay in the house.
