Do not buy!: Art paper

TERRIBLE! This paper has no weight. It's smooth, jet black with a slight brown undertone I find. I hate this paper. It's so thin. Colors on it are poorly transferred. (I know this because I've tried oil pastels on a different brand of thicker black paper and they appeared better on a different brand.) Not impressed at all. Overpriced! I thought Faber-Castell would be better quality. I think I'll use this with a white gel pen because that's all it's good for.

Pretty decent black sketch pad, good for colored pencils

The first thing many people might think when they see this black sketch pad is that it's just colored paper, but it's not. Faber-Castell Black Notebook is much smoother, finer grained and darker in black than colored paper. Both were available to me, so I photographed them side by side. The photo shows the difference quite well. Here I've played with chalk pastels, which work well, and colored pencils (I use Prismacolor Premier), which work even better. The pencils draw fluently and the blackโ€ฆ

Not recommended for watercolors

I've tried. since its pulp (wood-based) was not suitable for watercolours. dries instantly and was almost impossible to remove without damaging the paper. Wet on wet washing is not possible as this paper has virtually no sizing and the paper soaked up all the water before I finished it. Not to mention stiffness. even sealed paper bent badly. It has a decent tooth and is quite thick so it works for pastels (which I've tried with decent results). This works for sketches, markers, colored pencils,

Not worth the price

I used to have several of these notebooks which I use for collages because they are very thin. I actually thought it was a baby blanket. Lowered anywhere in the studio, the fixture quickly begins to suffer damage. It is not suitable as background paper because it does not tolerate moisture, does not tear, does not form bubbles and does not deform. If you try to move a piece after placing it, fibers will be left behind. Even the few markers I have don't soak into the paper leaving bubbles andโ€ฆ

Misleading product images. Nothing like the pictures!

I've been a fan of Faber-Castell since I was a child. Their products are consistently high quality and reliable. Spring. until now. This is my first disappointment, and god, this is a disappointment! The colors are not the same as here. Heavyweight paper generally has very weak, faded, sterilized colors, so based on the brand credibility and the bright color photos on the product page here at Revain I bought a Faber-Castell board backing in the hope that it would have true colors like this heโ€ฆ
