I only write reviews when I've had an extraordinary or horrible experience. This falls into the category of extraordinary experiences. I use this with DISH Hopper 3 with Sling. Setup was very easy. All I had to do was connect the USB cable to the DVR and this external drive and then reboot the DVR. Once the DVR restarted, the setup guide appeared. No adapters or anything else is needed other than what is included in the box (USB and eSATA cables included). My DVR required a USB connection. All…

It arrived today and was up and running in just minutes. The quick start guide is accompanied by an appendix that provides instructions for pairing with the DISH Hopper. Formatting takes about 10 minutes, and a progress bar and timer will show you how much time is left. You can start moving the recordings to the new hard drive, which will show up as 'Other Devices' on the DVR's Recordings page. Enjoy viewing.

I had a new dish receiver so I bought it to back up my TV recordings so I wouldn't lose them with the old receiver. It was slow but worked beautifully. Now I leave it plugged in and don't worry about moving them to the new receiver because accessing them from that hard drive is just as fast. It was really painless. I plugged it in and plugged it in, my hopper recognized it and that was it. I want everything to work that well.

I bought 2 for the price of 2 Directv DVRs. The device works fine when you plug it in for the first time, Directv formats it appropriately (takes a while) and then everything is fine. It's a bit noisy as the DTV DVR is constantly reading/writing and all head movements and selections make clicking noises. Consider it accommodation but I had to move one of the guest rooms.
