FQ Shape Workshop for quilters

I love the designs in this book. I bought it after seeing "The Chest of His Hope" in the "Look Inside" review. I give it 4/5 stars because the book seems to lack detailed instructions. It doesn't matter to me as I tend to parse templates to recreate them in different sizes anyway, but it's worth mentioning for those looking for full instructions. There are many blocks included that I have never encountered before. Those shown on the left side of the cover are examples only. The patterns are a…

Attractive light and bright quilts

I love this book by the Fat Quarterly group, which I subscribe to. There are many quilt projects that look great in lighter colors but can be made with any fabric. And quilters of many levels should be able to do this with clear pattern instructions and photos. I especially like the Tacha Fast Forward/Rewind Quilt, Brioni's Saw Blade Quilt and Joseph's Coat Block, which I've wanted to do for a long time. (I love circular patterns so much.) And if you love orange like I do, you'll love Katy's…

Should be in every quilter's library

The online magazine Fat Quarterly has garnered a loyal following of quilters who want their quilts to look fresh and modern. Her new book Shape Workshop for Quilters is in line with the e-zine vision. This book is structured in a very special way. Each chapter is divided into the traditional shape, squares and rectangles, triangles, circles, etc., and then each author provides projects using this shape. As you'd expect, projects range from the simple to the more complex, but with excellent…

Great idea book

The authors provide some great block patterns, but the real purpose of this book is to encourage shape-related ideas when designing blocks. For those who love sewing detail more than quilting itself (and for those who love quilting interesting blocks), this is a wonderful read to spark ideas. Photos are clear and easy to follow. The cutting directions are very simple (both in inches and centimeters). There are 60 blocks on offer, many based on well-known designs but with new or different ways…

Quilter Shape Workshop

I love it when I order something from Revain and get it in 2 days. Yesterday I received my copy of the Shape Workshop for Quilters*. I have to admit that the title confused me a bit, but when I saw this book I immediately wanted to make almost every block and quilt in it. I like the X Marks the Spot block designed by Brioni. I see myself adapting this template to use a jelly roll. How fun and easy is it? Then there's the adorable Tacha quilt, cute and simple. I think this might be the birthday…
