🔌 SPK1 Fieldpiece Review

Can't really rate the product but I ordered it specifically because the info says it uses an AAA battery. When I received it, it comes with a watch battery. If I'm on the phone in the middle of the night and my thermometer dies, I'm much less likely to drive to the gas station and find a watch battery than AAA.

I'm an HVAC technician and obviously taking the temperature is important. I have two of these, one for stock, the second for return. I like the jackknife style as it keeps the gauge from falling out of the channel wherever the hole is (you can partially cover it to keep it from falling out). These thermometers also read temperature FAST. I've had others from reputable companies that took five minutes to read, but not in this case.

I bought one of these in 2005 for work. I'm still using the same one, 8 years later. It works great and is still very accurate. It is used several times a week during the renovation of a hospital building in San Francisco. HVAC and refrigeration. Great digital pace, too bad Fieldpiece discontinued offering the SPK2 as a replacement. I prefer this SPK1 over the newer SPK2 as it is more compact and the side sloping probe allows it to be mounted on thermostats and room temperature sensors and the display can be read whereas the SPK2 needs to be handled as the display is on top. if you say the same thing.
