Difficult assembly due to large foam seal.

To be replaced every ten years according to the instructions. The old one is from April 2011 - so it's already started squeaking about a replacement. Industrial fair. But this unit is difficult to install because the bottom foam pad is too large all the way around (3/16 inch) and interferes with the locking mechanism. If you're fiddling with it on the kitchen table it can be handled, but if you're up a 10ft ladder. very difficult to align and repair. I ended up having to cut the gasket with an…

Ideal to replace the previous 7.5 year old.

An old wired (with 9v backup) First Alert carbon monoxide detector installed 7 years ago gave me a 5 chirp to replace the unit. This alarm uses the exact same bracket and wire connector as the manufacturer's last. TURN OFF THE POWER FIRST. Then turn the device and it will immediately pop out of the mount. If you're lazy, use a screwdriver to pull the old wiring connector out of the old carbon monoxide alarm box. And connect it directly to the new block. Plug in the cables and twist them into…

Pros
  • Electrochemical sensor accurately detects carbon monoxide

  • Not bad

Protected again, suitable for fire protection

I brought three CO5120BN carbon monoxide detectors to replace three that a contractor installed six years ago. One of the original units started beeping (5 beeps) every few minutes. The original block lasted six years before coming to an end. I don't think it's that bad. Having replaced all three of my original devices, even though only one reached the end of its lifespan, I am confident that I have at least 5 more years of protection. The swap was easy and only took a minute per device. Before

Pros
  • Easy access to the battery compartment; 9 volt battery included
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Perfect fit and easy installation

I ordered 4 of these carbon monoxide alarms, the exact ones I replaced so I didn't have to change the base or rewire. You need a flat screwdriver to separate the plugs, after which the new one is inserted with a little pressure. Some people complained that it was difficult to attach the round block to the base, it kept sliding down. The trick is to slide the wires up and out of the way. When installing on the base, first rotate the bottom counterclockwise a little to lock the grooves, then…

Cons
  • Slightly torn

Easy setup in 10 minutes per sensor.

I had to replace 3 of these at the same time because one of them indicated end of life (5 beeps). Kit replaced 8 years ago. This time I followed the simple procedure in the manufacturer's video and it was easy. In my home, all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are wired to a separate circuit protected by a 20 amp AFCI switch. Tools: ladder, screwdriver, eye protection. Turn off power at switch, remove alarm (unscrewed) from mounting plate, disconnect alarm cable. Plate unscrewed from the ceiling

Pros
  • Microprocessor control to minimize false alarms
Cons
  • Upgradeable

As you can see from previous reviews there is a very sticky foam tape protruding radially from the base of the sensor (see attached photo). This kept me from detaching the sensor from the base until I had distorted the base enough to free one side. I removed the excess tape with a razor blade, but then found that the sensor fit in the base had such a tight depth tolerance that I had to purchase pan head screws. Even then, the sensor wants to fall off the base. This appears to be because the…
