Great shoes (order half a size larger)

First of all, these are great shoes. If you want to ride flat pedals with studs, this is the perfect shoe. The rubber is very sticky and fully adheres to the pedals. A HUGE improvement in traction over something with a more prominent sole (like a hiking-style base shoe). Keep in mind that the shoes don't have a very deep profile - they're designed for pedaling, not hiking (so if you're pushing your bike up steep, tricky trails, it gets a little trickier). So why only 4 stars - fits. This shoe…

Eligible Purchase

I've seen some negative reviews about the quality control of Five Ten shoes but for me the concerns were both cost and functionality, if quality is questionable then functionality must be questionable be and how to justify the price? I bought a Freerider and the functionality and traction my shoes provide is exceptional uphill and downhill. The quality of the Freerider wasn't an issue in terms of stitching and outsole wear, I think the heel cup could use a little more cushioning. Overall a…

Pros

Cons
  • Slightly torn

These shoes were my first pair of true flat pedal mountain bike shoes. I rode clip-ons for 20 years before switching to a flat after buying my e-bike. I looked and read many reviews before deciding on this particular brand and style. This shoe is well made, comfortable and pedals with just the right amount of firmness. The price is on par for this type of shoe and reviewers have often commented that they can last 3-4 years. Being older and probably not as picky about gear as most of the…

I'm a believer now. Good value $$

After 30 years of cycling this is my first proper mountain bike shoe. I've worn Vans and running shoes for years and put off buying mountain bike shoes for years. At $90, these Five Ten Freeriders are well worth the money. I've ridden them 4 or 5 times already. The main advantages are the hard and sticky soles and the protection you get with this shoe that other boots lack. The sticky soles and extra protection you get from these boots will give you the confidence to ride more and tackle more…

Great shoe for MTB rides with flat pedals. The sole is very hard and I would say that it is not suitable for walking around the city for several hours after a ride. They're great for when you have to walk to the store to get a bottle of water etc and they look a lot like regular running shoes. They are perfect for what they were designed for. I found them very comfortable and my first pair I bought in my standard shoe size was uncomfortable. I went to Revain to exchange them and found I had to…

Saved my shoulder, horse riding and MTB riding with my wife

Wow. What is the difference in apartments. I'm a middle-aged mountain biker with far more passion than skill. The kids raced when they were little and have been clipless off-road for over 25 years. A month ago I was rolling slowly on a technical climb when I couldn't unhook. I was inches away from shoulder surgery due to a fractured shoulder blade (a sharp rock left a mark on the rest of my shoulder). At my age, that's impossible. Took the plunge after reading the reviews. I love it. Amazing…

Shoes live up to the hype

I argued for a long time about the purchase, trying to make up for it with sports shoes or my ear clips (SPD), which I don't like at all due to the technical terrain. In my opinion, the Five Ten Freeriders are as good as most claims. Having experienced BMX in my 20's I wasn't new to flat pedal skateboard style shoes and even though I turned 50 I still liked the cool look but shoes like Vans or DC just didn't work well for mtn . Cycle. My feet are getting older lol and they need support and…
