Great camera with a big problem

I bought this camera a few years ago and am generally happy with its performance. However, buyers should be aware that on this and all ex-model cameras there is a fatal USB connector fault that causes the USB connector to disconnect from the circuit board. to take pictures to or from the camera. So I'm sure this camera would have continued to perform like a champ without the poorly designed USB connector, but repairs with Flir after the first year of warranty are outrageously expensive, making…

You buy a 320x240 camera that only lets you see 80x60!

As others have noted, the micro USB port is very unreliable. They should have used the Mini instead. No problems so far, but the cover presses against the USB cable when plugged in. I've only had my device crash once and it came back with a hard reset. The device uses Windows CE (crazy) so it sometimes takes a long time to boot. It seems to go to sleep so the on time is reduced, but when it turns off completely it takes a while to boot up. The PC software is decent and you can take the…

As if the bandage had been removed.

Like many, I'm not a pro using a thermal imaging camera on a daily basis, but I'm still a geek who enjoys these tools/toys. I've wanted one for a long time, and the Flir E4, priced at just under a thousand, is finally within reach. I've had it for almost a week now and it's like I see the world in a completely different light (literally!). The main "hands on" use for me so far has been finding areas around the house with insufficient insulation - spots in the attic (especially around the edges…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Tradeable

I ordered the device on June 23 (very early in the morning) with delivery the next day. My module comes with firmware 1.22 calibrated late April 2014, all TIConfig mods run fast and without problems, confirmed thermal images are now in 320 x 240 resolution! Works great, the battery uses a single cell lithium ion so you can have the cell repaired after a few years if you wish. The ergonomics are great, the weight is great, it couldn't be better. Awesome hard case with foam cut outs for…
