Nice design, better when properly sharpened

After hearing all the hype surrounding Freud Forstner beats I was a little disappointed to find mine were pretty dull to begin with. After 10 minutes of sharpening everything worked. I drilled a 5" deep 2" hole in hardwood in 1.5 minutes. No burning, and the piece was just a little hot to the touch.

There was a fire in my shop

I have successfully used this drill bit to work with side grain in soft wood. (2 stars for performance.) I was trying to drill through a maple spindle (end grain) on my lathe. As always, I started with small pieces and worked incrementally at a reasonable speed. This bit generated enough heat to ignite sparks that started a small flame in my pile of chips. Boy Scouts can use this attachment with a cordless drill and make fire!

Pros
  • Spare parts and accessories for electric drills
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Spicy! but not the best buy

The bit is incredibly sharp and cuts through pine as quickly as possible. But I bought a drill to drill a hole in the end cedar. The barrel got stuck on the first hole I drilled and it only got worse from there. I've had to cut galls twice and only tried to use it a few times. Even with a drill press and slight constant pressure, the drill always has a good grip and jams. The cutting angle and design are not suited to anything other than cutting across the grain of very soft wood. If you need…

Pros
  • Power tool parts and accessories
Cons
  • Discontinued
