Description of πŸ”‹ FrSky MLVSS Mini Lipo Voltage Sensor: Smart Port Enabled - OLED Screen NOT Required

By removing the OLED screen from the original FLVSS and reconfiguring the remaining circuit FrSky has managed to reduce the size and weight of the original by almost 50% which is ideal for smaller aircraft models. The functionality of the MLVSS is identical to that of the FLVSS except that you cannot connect two of these in series to measure voltages in excess of 25V (6s). Operating Temperature: -10 – 70Β°C. Dimensions: 43 x 19 x 8mm Weight: 2.8g. Compatibility: Smart Port enabled receivers.

Maybe good, but I had a defect.

Unfortunately I got a bad one. It had an internal short and almost melted my wiring. Luckily I was still holding them and could feel them warming up immediately. I sent it back and got a bigger one with a display. I have a bigger one on my other planes and love them.

Pros
  • Inspires trust
Cons
  • Almost never

Excellent device for reading voltage readings from aircraft to ground. Apparently, the block with the LED screen has polarity protection, and the MLVSS does not have polarity protection, many planes have burned out due to this malfunction. Careful, I lost my air traffic controller, $108 fried like shrimp.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

I don't fly without it

I like this voltage sensor. Please note that you need X4R (does not work with D4R) or L9R. I never fly a plane without it (I have 2 or 3 of these). Indicates both the total voltage and the smallest individual cell voltage. On my Taranis I have an almost done alarm setting as well as an ok ground level alarm, both of which use the lowest cell voltage readings.

  • Few competitors

Great sensor for your plane

I ordered this for my FMS Super Cub. It was very easy to set up to get the total voltage of the battery, but there are some tricks to get the individual cell voltage from it. There are videos online on how to get these readings. After 2 flights the readings were correct when checked post flight and confirmed by the charger. You gotta love FrSky!

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Crumpled

This is a must have - power supply accessory

Everyone should have this item on their plane. The most important thing with LiPo batteries is knowing when one of their cells decides to fail you and crash your plane. Timers are useless as the time you can fly your plane depends on how old your battery is and the overall voltage is not bad but not the best. This device compares the voltage of each cell and tells you the lowest voltage in time so you can land your plane safely.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Contact seller

Surprisingly light and effective

Great little device. It's light enough that it doesn't affect my RC gyro, but it lets me know the battery voltage so I don't have to guess or use a timer. I'm just watching the voltage telemetry on my transmitter and everything is fine. It's much nicer than guessing or using a timer, especially when I have batteries of different capacities (mAh values). That way I can just use my transmitter to sound an alarm when the voltage is too low. I plan on buying a few more of these and customizing my…

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Without reverse polarity protection circuit

It would be great if they just put a reverse polarity protection circuit on the device. I first fried the ESC by connecting the battery and then tried to figure out why it wasn't working properly. I hooked it up to another ESC and boiled it too. It's admittedly my own inexperience and stupidity that caused this, but I don't think it's too much to expect or ask FrSky to have some diodes in there so people don't shoot themselves in the foot. Luckily, with an OLED display, FLVSS has this, so I…
