Used for the first time this morning and was not warned in advance that the oil would foam on contact with oil. Boy did it ever do! I couldn't even see what I was frying. I pulled it out after a few minutes and finished the job, but my fried mash had a certain chemical aftertaste that's still lingering in my mouth an hour later. I've used it for steaks and butter. The spatter was all over the plate, but to a lesser extent than otherwise without a protective wall. Haven't tested this yet, but I suspect it would work for eggs etc, something that doesn't take as long and requires more preparation to cook. I'll keep it for occasional cooking, but I wouldn't call it a frying wall. To be honest, my pan does pretty much the same job with the larger sides, but I only use it for veggies and such. The previous review mentioned this issue but it's worth repeating. Used when roasting 3 batches of stews in a 3 liter porcelain Dutch oven. There was some spatter over the protective cover, but it was probably operator error - too much heat. Removing the seared meat was difficult because I had to move utensils (tried several) to get the meat out. Finally, I used two tools, one in each hand, to place the meat on the spoon to pull it out. Still not easy because both hands were in the cone. Lesson

I am very pleased to report that this handy product prevents foam from splashing onto the hob. As you can see in the photo my burner is black at the bottom because foam burns every time I cook chickpea pasta (I do a lot as we are vegan and gluten intolerant).
