Very slow USB-C hard drive

The case is nice, but the drive's clock speed is slightly slower than comparable, cheaper USB 3.0 spindle drives. The first copies of files on it were so slow that I tried swapping out known good cables to test. Unfortunately, the peak write speed on my desktop through the Thunderbolt 3 port is 39.47 Mbps. Old USB 3.0 drive with 5200 RPM and 112 Mbit/s average.

  • Easy setup

Most Reliable Portable Drives

I use this as my Time Machine drive on my iMac. It replaces another brand that failed earlier than expected. I trust G-Tech and have used their drives and cases for many years. Hard drives may fail, but they last longer than any other brand I've used and tested. Their tech support is great too.

Pros
  • Complete Kit
Cons
  • No Paint Required

Hard drive easy to use, plug and play

As someone who takes up a lot of hard drive space on my computer, I needed something fast and compact to take with me on the go, and it would work just fine. I've had a lot of hard drive failures and that's the main reason you buy an external hard drive in the first place, right?! This drive was easy to connect and loaded on my screen immediately. (See image) What I like most about this drive is that it's compact and lightweight, making it easy to slip into your purse and take with you.

Two 4TB drives failed in 18 months

I bought this 4TB drive to use with my MacBook Pro. I connect it directly USB-C to USB-C, no hub. The first one stopped working after a couple of months - the computer recognized it but couldn't do anything with it. Mac Disk Utility couldn't "fix" it, and the Disk Utility app that came with the drive didn't do anything. So I have something else. He worked longer, maybe 9 months. The computer doesn't recognize that it's connected, although Mac Disk Utility sees it and says everything is fine…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

I usually don't like negative comments and I don't like to leave negative comments. I'm a YouTuber and plan to post important videos and information on this disc. The goods received. First impressions are the box, and the feel of the disc is like what you'd buy at five lower. When you connect the drive for the first time, it will show 3GB, not TB. (I ordered one for 4TB). Then I format the drive (for Windows you need to format it with a formatter). When formatting to see if that solves the…

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Boring packaging

Drive OK but warranty sucks

Don't be fooled, USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 1) speeds are the same as USB 3.0. Faster speed is USB 3.1 Gen 2. Gen 1 is slower. This drive was easy to set up for Windows 10 and the copy speed was slow, around 100MB/s. With a 3 year limited warranty if copy speed is not a concern, it is very good value for money. However, after minimal use, the drive failed and the format failed - too many bad sectors. If you need warranty service, the phone will not be answered in 2 hours, and your email will not be…
