Buy Now At Parts

I had the original shock absorbers on my 1998 Explorer 4x4 4.0 and replaced them before a big hike this weekend. 20/10 recommend them for 2nd generation explorers. I will buy them again for every car I own. 4th generation mechanic with 7 years experience.

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

Buy, buy, buy. Everything you could want from them

Put them on my 96 exp with great factory suspension (no sag) and get about an inch and a half of rear lift. The ride is perfectly smooth over bumps, but stiff enough that it doesn't squat at all like it used to when I change gears and step back on the accelerator. Makes the driving experience what it should be!

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Mostly good but...

Unexpected Benefits

I installed a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport for the additional charge of an electric wheelchair. It worked great but I wasn't expecting a better ride when the car wasn't loaded. For the first time, due to the short wheelbase, the car did not move along the entire road. It drives straight and drives even better than before.

Put them on my 96 exp with great factory suspension (no sag) and got about 1.5 inches of rear travel. The ride is perfectly smooth over bumps, but stiff enough that when I change gears and step back on the accelerator, it doesn't squat at all like it used to. Makes the driving experience what it should be!

Worth a few bucks more compared to cheaper OEM replacement

Definitely improved the stability of my 1996 Ford Explorer Sport. It used to roll a lot when exiting the parking lot or driving slowly on the road, now nothing! Even raised the rear by about 2 inches. Powerful springs are good, but you'll need two jacks or a large rod to use these puppies as leverage (they don't compress with any sort of belt. The only thing that bothers me is after a day of hard riding I've noticed that the lower rubber washers where the spring sits on the rimmed platform areโ€ฆ
