The "permanent" adhesive pad designed to attach this assembly to the dash just DOES NOT WORK on my car ((Subaru, which doesn't have an *overly textured* dash)). First, the base just doesn't hold up. I did everything according to the instructions (smooth surface, alcohol preparation, exposure time 24 hours before use). Works great. Reading other reviews I think Garmin can be unfairly blamed for the problems with double sided tape. Silicone oils are the enemy of every paint and glue. They penetrate deep into the pores of the plastic and can hardly be removed. They also retain adhesive for sticking. Many plastic polishing sprays contain silicone oils. Even if your dash looks drab, chances are someone at some point in a car's life has used silicone oil baby spray as one of the ingredients. Alcohol wipes aren't…

We install this mount in the camper and it is the perfect solution when there is not enough space for the dashboard friction mount. I followed the alcohol wipe (and dry) instructions before attaching the sticky pad to the base of the mount and then to the RV dashboard.
